James L. Pennington, 74, of Canaan passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born in Leslie County, Kentucky on March 12, 1938 and was married to Marilyn Thieman on May 29, 1990 and she survives. Other survivors include five sons Andrew (Rhonda) Lochard of Cross Plains, Chris (Melissa) Lochard of Madison, Fred (Susan) Pegg of Floyds Knobs, Charles L. Pennington of Canaan, and Jim Pennington of Hanover; three daughters Rebecca (Benny) Mohr of Versailles, Loretta Thompson of Dupont, and Gailia Cloud of Madison; 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother Lindbergh (Shirley) Couch of Deputy; one sister Galyean (Bill) Morris of Canaan. He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Pennington and his brothers Pearl and Nathan. Mr. Pennington had worked for 15 years in the Terry Glenn Coal Mine in Kentucky. He was also a former employee of Grote in Madison and for the last 19 years he and his wife were meter readers for Canaan Utilities. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Charles Miller, chaplain at Ripley Crossing officiating. Burial will be in the Canaan Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
