**James F. Taul, Sr., 76, of Versailles** passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born at Friendship on August 15, 1936 the son of Hunter and Lois Ward Taul. He was married to Sharon Vanvolkenberg on May 27, 1961 at the Osgood Church of the Nazarene and she survives. Other survivors include two sons James (Jill) Taul, Jr. of Lafayette and Jerry (Stephanie) Taul of Batesville; one daughter Anita Bough of Linton; 9 grandchildren; one sister Mary Edith Bullock of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jesse Taul, and his sister Betty Bode. Mr. Taul was a 1954 graduate of Versailles High School. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 with Company B of the 100 Tank Battalion at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He was rated as a sharpshooter, First Class Gunner, and a carbine expert. In civilian life he worked as a dispatcher with the CSX Railroad from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. Jim was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church at Versailles, Versailles American Legion, Ripley County Voiture 40 & 8, the board of directors of the Cliff Hill Cemetery, and was a former member of the Versailles Fire Department. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Carter Corbrey officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the First Southern Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
