Jay C Hensley, 90, of Versailles passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at his home. He was born at Kings Mountain in Pendleton County, Kentucky on May 17, 1921 the son of John C. and Della Wall Hensley. He was married to Freeda Cain on September 3, 1940 and his wife of 70 years survives. Other survivors include two sons Carl (Harriet) Hensley of Greensburg and Larry (Vicky) Hensley of Versailles; one daughter Kay (Jim) Steele of Ossian; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; four brothers Mitchell (Laurie) Hensley of Greenwood, William (Susan) Hensley of Greenfield, John (Janet) Hensley of Rising Sun, and Donald (Louise) Hensley of Fishers; three sisters Glenda (Steve) Ashcraft of Aurora, Wanda Bennett of Fishers, and Gloria Murray of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Gayle.
Mr. Hensley was a WWII veteran. He was a 40 year employee of Seagrams and had also been a shoe cobbler for 35 years. Jay was a member of the Shelby Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman and David Jolly officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Monday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
