**Jerald R. Smith**, 60, of Versailles passed away Saturday October 26 at his home. He was born in Cincinnati on May 17, 1942 the son of Harvey and Laura Detmer Smith. He was married to Judith Strubbe on April 14, 1973 and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Jason Smith, and one daughter, LeAnne Smith, both of Versailles; his twin sister, Janice Magill and her husband Tom of Madison; one grandson Benjamin Smith and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew David Magill. Mr. Smith was a 1960 graduate of Cross Plains High School and was a member of the Army Reserves where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. He was a munitions test director for the Jefferson Proving Ground and retired in 1995 and since had been a maintenance worker for the Indiana State Police at Versailles. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Dewberry where he served as an elder and was also a member of the Versailles American Legion at Versailles. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 29 at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Donald Sauls officiating. Calling will be Monday October 28 from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and also one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
