Jesse E. Phillippe, 81, of Versailles passed away Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was born at Liberty, Kentucky on June 17, 1926 the son of Jake and Nina Mae Owens Phillippe. He was married to Virginia Durham on April 15, 1948 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Jay Phillippe and his wife Leeanna of Versailles; one daughter Rita Speigelhalder and her husband George of Crothersville; grandchildren Megan and AJ Phillippe and Jessica Speigelhalder; one brother JR Phillippe of Clay City, Kentucky; four sisters, Gladys Emerson and Beulah Williams both of Liberty, Kentucky, Orpha Godbey of Carrollton, Kentucky, and Norma Jean Ashley of Eubank, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Janis Phillippe, and his sister Anna Bess Mandel.
Mr. Phillippe was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Shelby Christian Church, Versailles American Legion, and the Versailles Masonic Lodge. He was a bus driver for the South Ripley schools and owned and operated the Phillippe Oil Company both for 30 years and was a feed sales representative for Ag Land for 28 years.
Funeral services will begin Sunday, August 19 at 3pm with Masonic Services by the Versailles Masonic Lodge followed by services officiated by Rev. Mark Walker of the Versailles Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be at 12pm Sunday until time of services. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or the Shelby Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
