Jesse H. Westmeyer, Jr., 65, of Versailles passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born at Batesville on November 7, 1945 the son of Jesse Sr. and Leona J. Curry Westmeyer. He was married to Jane Ellen Freudenstein on August 2, 1969 and she survives. Other survivors include his mother Leona "Jo" Westmeyer of Versailles; one son Edward (Shannon) Westmeyer of Troy, Ohio; two daughters Natalie (Jerry) Gilpin and Susan Westmeyer both of Versailles; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother David (Tulin) Westmeyer of Louisville; sister-in-law Ann Westmeyer of Lexington, Kentucky; brother-in-law Roger (Cathy) Freudenstein of Spring Hill, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Stephen Westmeyer.
Mr. Westmeyer was a 1963 graduate of Versailles High School and received a degree in business from Miller-Draugn Business College in Cincinnati. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a Corporal with the United States Marine Corp. Jesse became a member of the Indiana State Police in November of 1967 and served for 33 years retiring in 2000 from the Versailles Post. He was employed with Hardy Insurance in Versailles and later with Mainsource Insurance.
Mr. Westmeyer was a 54 year member of the Tyson United Methodist Church in Versailles where he served in several capacities and was currently a member of the church Board of Trustees. He was also a member and past commander of the Versailles American Legion Post, member and past master of the Versailles Masonic Lodge, member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, and a member of the State Police Alliance.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6 at 11am at the Tyson United Methodist Church in Versailles with Rev. John Scudder and Rev. James Byerly officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles with military honors by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with the Versailles Masonic Lodge conducting services at 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Westmeyer Scholarship Fund, Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles American Legion, or the Tyson United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
