Joan R. Calender

Joan R. Calender, 71, of Elrod passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born at Benham on December 19, 1939 the daughter of John and Grace Sedam Patton. She was married to Joseph "J.B." Calender on November 27, 1958 and he survives. Other survivors include one daughter Jeanna Barnett of Cincinnati; grandchildren Joseph Calender, Rebecca Haase, and Joshua Rogers; one great-granddaughter Natalie Calender; two brothers John Patton of Lawrenceburg and Jim (Barb) Patton of Hodgkins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Pat Taylor. Mrs. Calender was a 1958 graduate of Aurora High School and completed training at the Moeller Cosmetology School in Cincinnati in 1964. She had worked as a beautician in Versailles, Milan, and Lawrenceburg. Joan was also in the process of obtaining her pilot's license and had logged enough hours in training to begin soloing. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 31 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. Memorials may be given to Rescue 30 or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
