Joe W. Day, 73, of Versailles passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his home. He was born at Barwick in Breathitt County, Kentucky on October 12, 1937 the son of Kelly and Erasta Stidham Day. He was married to Peggy Sackett on July 12, 1996 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Darrell Day of Indianapolis and Dennis (Stefanie) Day of Lebanon; one daughter Sandy (Gale) Howard of Versailles; four step-children Douglas (Myra) Walston and Bethany (Terry) Chapman both of Rising Sun, Rebecca (Tim) Couch of Austin and David Walston of Versailles; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers Dale (LaVerne) Day and Tom (Lorine) Day both of Versailles; four sisters Lillie Mae Hisle of Greenfield, Pruda Setser, Mary Ellen Thieman, and Pauline (Irvin) Hart all of Versailles; sister-in-law Tish Day of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harlan Day. Mr. Day was a 1955 graduate of New Marion High School and had received an associates degree in electrical work. He was an electrician and a member of IBEW Local 639 and had also worked as a carpenter and plumber. Joe was a member of the Church of Christ at Milan. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 17 at 10:30am at the Church of Christ in Milan with Shawn McMullen and Dale Day officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden at Madison. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30 until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Church of Christ at Milan in care of the funeral home.
