John W. Volz,
79, of Osgood
passed away at 2:20 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the
Margaret Mary Community Hospital
in Batesville. He was born near Lookout on Sunday, April 19,
1942, the son of
Paul and Annabelle Burkhart Volz. He was married to Theresa
Schutte on June 15,
1963,
and his wife of 58 years
survives. Other
survivors include six sons Jeff (Cathy) Volz of Osgood, Eric
(Jenny Zapfe) Volz
of Greensburg, Brian (Eva) Volz of Osgood, Mike (Susan) Volz of
Fisherville,
Kentucky, Shawn Volz of Napoleon, and Jason (Christi) Volz of
Osgood; 20
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother Andy
(Carol) Volz of
Batesville; two sisters Pauline (Don) Schmidt and Susie (James)
Nichols both of
Batesville; sister-in-law Roxanne Schneider of Batesville. He
was preceded in
death by his grandson Jack Thomas Volz, his parents and his
brother Ron "Butch"
Volz. Mr. Volz was a 1960 graduate of Napoleon High School
where he played on the Bearcat basketball team. John was a
farmer and his
working career off the farm spanned many years. He was a former
employee of
Chris Volz Motors in Milan, Cummins Engine in Columbus, Hil-Rom
Batesville, and Standard Fertilizer in New Point. He and Theresa
were both
school bus drivers for the Jac-Cen-Del schools and John drove
for 34 years. His
hobbies included coon hunting, playing euchre and 500, pitching
horseshoes,
horseback riding, camping, and participating in the Comer Wagon
Train on Labor
Day. The Volz family also operated a large truck garden. John
was a member of the
St. John Catholic Church in Osgood. Mass of Christian Burial
will be held on
Thursday, January 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Johns with Father John
Meyer officiating. Burial will
be in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery
in Batesville. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to
7 p.m. at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles
with Rosary services beginning at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be
given to the Osgood
Fire Department or the St. John Catholic Church in care of the
funeral home.
