Joseph (J. B.) Calender, 84, of Elrod
passed away at 8 p.m., Tuesday,
December 24 at his home. He was born near Versailles on February 25,
1940, the son of Luther and Anna Eckler Calender. He was married to Joan
Patton on November 27, 1958 and she preceded
him in death on January 28, 2011. Survivors include one daughter Jeanna
(Ronnie) Eldridge of Sunman; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren;
one sister June Calender of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He was also
preceded in death by his parents and his grandson
Joshua Rogers. J. B. was a 1958 graduate of Versailles High School and
on November 2, 1964 he enlisted in the US Army. He served until his
discharge on November 2, 1964, rising to the rank of SP 4 and was
qualified as a rifle marksman. For many years he owned
and operated Calender Excavating. He enjoyed working on his old cars,
especially with the grandchildren and he was a member of the former
Green Chapel Baptist Church. J.B.'s wishes were to be cremated and a
celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. Monday,
December 30 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with
Tom Holt officiating. Visitation will also be on Monday beginning at 5
p.m. Burial will be at a later date in the Washington Cemetery in Elrod.
Memorials may be given to the Milan American
Legion in care of the funeral home.
