Junior "Red" Landwehr, 78, of Versailles passed away Sunday evening, February 28, 2010 in the comfort of his home with his wife Dorene at his side. They were married on May 28, 1952. He was born May 15, 1931 in Ripley County, the only son of Major and Rena Landwehr. Survivors include his wife and four children. Diana (Landwehr) Johnson and her husband Gary of Elrod and their two children Micah and Jenna of Baltimore, Maryland; Gary and Dedra Landwehr of Versailles and their children Andy and wife Martha of Fort Hood, Texas, Eric and his fiancée Ashley Redwine with plans to reside in Benham, and Tyler also of Versailles; Greg and Shirley Landwehr and their two children Dawn (Landwehr) Heffelmire and her children Rory and Reese of Versailles, Amber (Landwehr) Seppala and her husband Zack and their two children Mara and Ada of Fairfield, Ohio; Gil and Tracy Landwehr and their two children Heath and Katie also residing in Versailles.
Red served in the US Army in the Korean War and later retired from the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood after 28 years. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean where in his younger years he served on the church council and played on the church softball team. Since retirement his time has been well spent by bowling, fishing, and occasionally making maple syrup and caring for the family farm located on Cave Hill Road.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 3 at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor James Culver of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Family services will follow at the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion or the Fishes and Loaves food pantry in Osgood in care of the funeral home.
