Kathryn W. Smith, 89, of Cross Plains passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007 at her home. She was born at Aurora on May 16, 1918 the daughter of William F. and Kathryn Edith Smith Meier. She was married to Gilbert Smith on July 8, 1939 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1996. Survivors include one son Wayne Smith and his wife Dianna of Cross Plains; two daughters, Carolyn Broadus and her husband Mike of Upton, Kentucky and Evelyn Yonts of Whitesburg, Kentucky; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; one sister Jeanette Oatman of Hillsboro, California. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Hildegard Herring and Wilma Meyer, and her brother Fred Meier. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Dewberry where she participated in the Ladies Aid Society. She was a homemaker and was employed for 20 years with Reliance Electric at Madison. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 25 at 2pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Dewberry with Pastor Ralph Campen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 1pm until time of services Sunday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Blacktop fund or to the cemetery in care of the funeral home.
