Kenneth N. Morris

Kenneth N. Morris, 71, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Waters of Batesville. He was born near Holton on June 26, 1934 the son of Albert and Ruth Smith Morris. He was married to Ada Mathias on December 22, 1957 and she preceded him in death on August 25, 2005. Mr. Morris was a 1952 graduate of Versailles High School and graduated with a degree in photo journalism from Depauw University in Greencastle in 1956. After being commissioned in the US Navy, he was assigned to a Pacific Fleet Destroyer and served a tour as Instructor of Destroyer Tactics. Mr. Morris had a long and unusual military career having served in every branch of the armed forces. He retired from two branches of the Armed Forces at the rank of Lt. Commander. He had served in the Air Force, Army, Navy, Florida National Guard, and the US Coast Guard. He had formerly been employed with Cummins Engine in Columbus, Teledyne Continental in Detroit, Allis-Chalmers, and International Harvester, both in Chicago. Survivors include one son Philip Newman Morris and his wife Autumn of Pikeville, Tennessee; daughters Elizabeth Ann Saffran and her husband Kenneth of Chesterton and Catherine Hamm and her husband Duke of Batesville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his mother-in-law Ethel Mathias of Versailles; his brother Paul Morris and his wife Barbara of Versailles. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 28 at 1pm at the Holton Cemetery with Rev. Michael Hendrix of the Tyson United Methodist Church officiating. Military graveside rites will be given by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion. The Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles is in charge of arrangements.
