Kenneth Shaw

Kenneth Shaw, 89, of Versailles, formerly of Osgood, passed away at 9:10pm, Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born at Flat Rock in Shelby County, Indiana on September 9, 1928 the son of Ernest and Edna Kraus Shaw. He was married to Viola Vornheder on September 23, 1969 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Danny Halcomb of Milton, Kentucky, and Kenneth R. Shaw of California; two daughters Wanda (Raymond) Hoeppner, and Patricia (Roger) Truman both of Madison; one step-son Gordon (Linda) Hehe of Okeana, Ohio; three step-daughters Barbara Beach of Madison, Pamela (Gregory) Brandes of Milan, and Linda (Danny) Cyrus of Osgood; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; one sister Bernice Loveall of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Darrell Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a 1946 graduate of Dupont High School. Kenneth was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a private with the 5 Army Infantry. For service to his country Kenneth received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Occupation of Japan Medal. In civilian life he worked for the Johnson Grocery in Greensburg and also at US Shoe in Osgood. He also was a self-employed trucker contracting with Lawrenceburg Trucking. Kenneth had an extensive electric train collection and he and Viola enjoyed camping. A big thrill for him was to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, accompanied by his daughter Linda. Kenneth was a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church and the Osgood American Legion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Michael Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod with military graveside rites by the Osgood American Legion. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cedar Creek Community Church or Rescue 69 in care of the funeral home.
