Larry Edward Black,
65, of
Osgood, IN
, passed away on January 4, 2025, after battling
health
issues for many years. Born on February 8, 1959, in Milan, IN,
Larry spent his
entire life in Osgood. He was a devoted husband to his loving
wife, Susan
Black, for 34 years.
Larry
was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Edward Black and
Peggy Webber Black.
He is survived by his brother, Mike Black (Karen); his sons,
Paul Black (Mary)
of Crestwood, KY, Kyle Black (Lindsay) of Napoleon, IN; his
step-daughters,
Stephanie Narwold (Steve) of Osgood, IN, Michelle Fowkes (Chad)
of Harrison,
OH; and his step-son, Chad Williams (Misty) of Osgood. Larry was
also a proud
and loving "Pap" to 11 beloved grandchildren and cherished by
many nieces and
nephews.
A 1977 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School, Larry
attended
the Southeastern Career Center to study Auto Mechanics and was
an active member
of the Future Farmers of America. He was a proud member of the
1977 Sectional
Champion Jac-Cen-Del Eagles Varsity Basketball team, coached by
Dave Porter.
Larry worked hard his entire life to provide for his
family
and serve his community. He worked for 26 years at NTN-BCA in
Greensburg,
working alongside his mother for many of those years. He then
worked at Bob's
Service Station in Osgood, IN, for 18 years alongside his good
friend Bob
Linville, pumping gas, changing oil and tires, and shooting the
bull with
everyone who came in.
He served bravely alongside his fellow brothers with
the
Osgood Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years, helping many
people, including
directly assisting in saving a man from a second-story fire on
Main St. in
Osgood, saving that man's life. During his time at OVFD, he
served as Treasurer
and Assistant Chief. He also served with the Ripley County
Emergency Management
Association for 12 years.
In his life, Larry enjoyed many things. Christmas
was his
favorite time of year, and he thoroughly enjoyed the act of
giving and
providing joy with gifts to his wife, children, and
grandchildren. He had a
passion for old muscle cars and enjoyed restoring multiple
Camaros over the
years. He also enjoyed traveling with his family on vacations
and golf trips,
attending Reds games, farming with his brother-in-law Mike
Webster, mowing his
yard, and woodworking.
Above all else, above all his hard work, service to
the
community, muscle cars, and leisurely activities, Larry enjoyed
the love of his
family. Whether he was Dad, Uncle Larry, or Pap, as he was
affectionately known
to his grandchildren, Larry provided a lifetime of love for his
family and
friends. He taught his children the values of hard work and
honesty, in both
his actions and his words. He will be dearly, dearly missed by
everyone that
knew him.
Visitation will be Friday, January 10 from 4 to 8 PM
at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services
will be at 11
a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Larry's niece Stephanie
Back
officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery with Rev.
Tim Osborne
officiating. Memorials may be made to benefit Jac-Cen-Del High
School Lady
Eagles Basketball.
