Larry (Shag) Pickett

Larry (Shag) Pickett, Sr., 61, of the Flat Rock community near Osgood passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born near Osgood on October 22, 1942 the son of Robert and Zelma Baldwin Pickett. He was married to Carmen Jackson on March 13, 1987 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Larry Pickett, Jr. and Dennis Bushhorn, Jr. both of Osgood; four daughters, Lori Voegele and her fiancé Roger Eckstein of Enochsburg, Joy Pickett-Zapfe of Osgood, Heidi Lovins and her husband Steve of Aurora, and Maggie Pickett at home; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Carolyn Schmidt of Guilford and father-in-law John Jackson of Lake City, Tennessee; three sisters, Eileen Levell of Daleville, Maxine Young and her husband Alvin of Osgood, and Evelyn Hull and Milton of Columbus; sister-in-law Clara Hull of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Elvan. Mr. Pickett was a 1960 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a member of the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church. He was a 37 year employee of Cummins Engine retiring in 1999. He was also a member of the ABATE of Indiana, Sons of the American Legion at Osgood, Amvets of Osgood, and was currently serving on the board of directors of the Holton Community Water Corporation. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 11am at the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 2 from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Rescue 69, or the church.
