Leah O. Cumberworth, 89, of the Hopewell community passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the home of her daughter near Holton.
She was born near Osgood on August 7, 1914, the daughter of Arthur and Olive Beihl Palmer. She was married to Guy Cumberworth on November 28, 1935 and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1985. Mrs. Cumberworth was a 1933 graduate of Holton High School and was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. She served as church custodian for forty years and was also a member of the Hopewell Homemakers Club.
She is survived by one son, Guy Cumberworth, Jr. and his wife Saralee of Holton; four daughters, Luella Franklin and her husband Lloyd of the Hopewell community, Lila Holcomb and husband Dean of Westport, Linda Tieman of Holton, and Leda Hunteman and husband Carl of Van Buren, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one great-grand child, her son-in-law Wayne Tieman and her brothers Lowell Palmer, Lester Palmer, Estal Palmer and by her sister Alma McGee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15 at 10:30am at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev.David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 14 from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building fund.
