Leah M. Swinney, 77, of New Marion passed away Thursday February 13, 2003 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born at New Marion on June 1, 1925, the daughter of Rufus and Lillie Brown Myers and was married to Cecil Swinney on June 20, 1946 and he preceded her in death on December 11, 1997. Mrs. Swinney is survived by three sons; Charles Swinney and his wife Vickie, Roger Swinney and wife Connie, all of Osgood, Chester Swinney and wife Theresa of Versailles; two daughters, Rebecca Mullins and her husband Lexie, and Linda Elston and her husband Stanley, all of Cross Plains; two daughters-in-law Phyllis Swinney of Holton and Sarah Myers of New Marion; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers, David Myers of Greenwood, Russell Myers of Evansville, and Charles Myers of Osgood; three sisters, Mabel Sexton and Nettie Grigsby both of Versailles, and Rosie Burress of New Marion. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her daughter Julie, sons Richard Swinney and James Myers, one grandchild, and her sisters Betty Kieffer and Mary Jo Lauber. Mrs. Swinney was a 1943 graduate of New Marion High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Marion Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2pm at the New Marion Baptist Church with Russell Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, February 15 from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery.
