Leona L. Suttinger, 92, of New Marion passed away Sunday, November 16, 2003 at the Manderley Health Care Center at Osgood. She was born near New Marion on January 19, 1911 the daughter of John and Regina Holzer Eckstein. She was married to Harry Suttinger and he preceded her in death on February 9, 2000. Mrs. Suttinger was retired from Indiana Bell where she worked as a telephone operator. She was a member of the St. Magdalene Catholic Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She is survived by her sisters Gertrude Meisberger of New Marion and Irene Doyle of Indianapolis along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Charles, Bernard, Herman, John, Ed, and Matt Eckstein and her sisters Margaret Jasper, Carrie Stewart, and Catherine Kurtz. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 10am at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Madison with Father John Meyer officiating. Burial in the St. Magdalene Cemetery at Madison. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 18 from 6pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services at 7:30pm. Memorials may be given to the St. Magdalene Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
