Leslie R. Swinney, 66, of Osgood passed away Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born near New Marion on March 30, 1939 the son of Culver and Ethel Andress Swinney. He was married to Jill Wilhelm on August 21, 1960 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Anthony Swinney and his wife Carole of Holton; one daughter Patricia Grote and her husband Pat of Greensburg; grandchildren Keith Swinney and his wife Amber, Brian, Kevin, and Bridget Swinney, Erica and Morgan Grote; one great-granddaughter Autumn Swinney; his mother-in-law Lois Wilhelm Salmon of Versailles; two brothers Edgar Lee Swinney and his wife Ruth Ann of Osgood, Robert Swinney and his wife Carole of Canaan.
Mr. Swinney was a 1957 graduate of New Marion High School. He had owned and operated Swinney's Farm Equipment, which was an International Harvester dealership near Versailles. He also was a farmer, a former salesman for Thurston's Farm Equipment in Greensburg, and was currently self-employed selling used farm equipment. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osgood where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the Osgood Lions Club and was recently awarded a Melvin Jones Fellow. Mr. Swinney was a former member of the Jac-Cen-Del School Board and a former board member of the Southeastern Career Center. He was also a member of the National Tractor Puller's Association.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 2 at 10:30am at the First Baptist Church in Osgood with Rev. Bob Harting and Rev. Don Buck officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Osgood in care of the funeral home.
