Maria C. Martin

Maria C. Martin, 93, of Versailles passed away at 2:10 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at her home. She was born in Zapopan, Mexico on October 27, 1930, the daughter of Jose Jesus and Ramona Covarrubias Cuevas. She was married to Raymond Martin and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2001. Survivors include three sons Jessie (Paula) Cuellar of St. Leon, Michael (Jeanette) Cuellar of Harrison, Ohio, and Richard (Teresa) Cuellar of Indianapolis; two daughters Marta Fox of North Vernon and Mary Ann (Arthur) Roell of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jose Cuevas, and her sister Socorro Miller. Mrs. Martin's working career spanned many years where she did custodial work at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Shelbyville as well as at Waldron High School. She also worked as a nurse's aide at the Silver Bell Nursing Home in Versailles. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Shelbyville with Father Paul Landwehlen officiating. Memorials may be given to the cemetery in care of the funeral home.
