Martha C. Williams, 97, of Osgood passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Heritage House in Greensburg. She was born in the Flat Rock community near Osgood on June 7, 1910 the daughter of Leland and Lula Hull Rayburn. She was married to Glenn Williams on February 20, 1931 and he preceded her in death on August 17, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Milford Williams of Holton and Gerald (Carolyn) Williams of Greensburg; two daughters, Beverly (Charles) Newlin of Duluth, Georgia and Carolyn (John) Newlin of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Sue, daughter-in-law Clara Williams, her brothers Ollie and William Rayburn, and her sister Annabelle Williams.
Mrs. Williams attended the Bethel School in the Flat Rock community as a child and was the last living member of her Holton High School class of 1928. She was a homemaker and a member of the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Ripley County Farm Bureau and a 51 year and past Grand Matron of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4 at 11am at the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Carolyn Williams and Malvin McCullough officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Friday at the church. The Versailles chapter of the Eastern Star will conduct services at 7:30pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
