Mary M. Buchanan

Mary M. Buchanan, 85, of Belleville, Michigan, formerly of Benham, passed away Sunday, May 15 at the Oakwood Memorial Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. She was born at Canton, North Carolina on October 14, 1919 the daughter of Jesse and Ada Edwards Johnson. She was married to Emmett Buchanan on April 20, 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1989. She is survived by her son David Buchanan and his wife Ernestine and one daughter Linda (Susie) Gabrys and her husband Joseph all of Belleville; three grandsons, Jacob Reeder, Nathan Gabrys and Joseph Gabrys, Jr.; three sisters Lora Buchanan of Alabama, Edith Hamilton of Baltimore, and Opal Sprouse of Asheville, North Carolina. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Belleville Church of God and also of the Versailles Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired nursing assistant having retired from Outer Drive Hospital in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23 at 11am at the Benham United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May from 4pm to 6pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Eastern Star services at 6pm. Memorials may be given to the Southeastern Indiana Alzheimer's Support Group in care of the funeral home.
