Mary Sue Thompson, 72, of Madison, formerly of Benham passed away at 3pm Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born at Milan on November 11, 1942 the daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn Weber Werner. She was married to Fred Thompson on December 24, 1980 and he survives. Other survivors include two sons William R. (Christy) Orwig of Madison and Allan (Heidi) Thompson of Milan; three daughters Barbara (Tom) McPherson of Daytona Beach, Florida, Jennifer (Jim) Hunger of Scottsburg, and Mary Lloyd (William) Ralston of Holton; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Lawrence Paul Werner, Jr. Mrs. Thompson was a 1960 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She was a former employee of the Ripley County Clerk's office and had served as the manager for the Osgood Building and Loan. Upon it being acquired by Home Federal she served as manager of the Osgood branch until her retirement in 1998. She then owned M & M Mortgage which she operated from her home. Mary Sue was a member of the Benham United Methodist Church and attended the Madison Assembly of God. She had also served on the Osgood Beautification Committee and had worked with the Ripley County Tourism Bureau. Her hobbies included cooking and camping. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9 at 10:30am at the Madison Assembly of God with Pastor Peter Joudry, Rev. Jerry Brooks, and Revs. John and Bessie Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30am until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Old Benham Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
