Mary E. Whitham, 94, of Waynesville, Ohio passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Quaker Heights Care Community in Waynesville. She was born in Brown Township near Benham on May 5, 1921 the daughter of Clyde and Susie Leatherbury Whitham. Survivors include one daughter Linda (Ron) Hardin of Centerville, Ohio; two grandchildren Heather (Phil) Miller of Vandalia, Ohio and Heidi (Christian) Tharp of Dublin, Ohio; two great-grandchildren Joe Miller and Kylie Tharp; one brother Robert Whitham of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Frank, Earl, Gary, Willis, Bill, and Harvey Whitham, and her sisters Dorothy Whitham, Faye Buchtman, Marcella Howell, and Leo Whitham. Ms. Whitham was a 1939 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She was a former employee of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and also of the Dayton State Hospital. She had also done private duty nursing and assisted many of her family members when they were ill. Mary moved from the Ripley County area at a young age, but the farm near Benham was always home to her. She adored her granddaughters and enjoyed taking trips with them to Opryland and Disney World. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October at 1pm at the Benham Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Benham Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
