Matt R. Kabbes

Matt R. Kabbes, 78, of Cross Plains passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born in Cincinnati on May 30, 1934 the son of Frank and Marie Smither Kabbes. He was married to Delores Riestenberg on May 14, 1955 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Michael (Bonnie) Kabbes of Cincinnati; three daughters Kathy Kreimer of Burlington, Kentucky, Susan (Tom) Spielmann of Aurora, and Pamela Kabbes of Salem; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers Roger (Helen) Kabbes and Bob (Judy) Kabbes both of Traverse City, Michigan; one sister Gail Schwettmann also of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lois Poettker. Mr. Kabbes was a 1952 graduate of Elder High School in Cincinnati. He was a 37 year employee of F. A. Kamps Flooring in Cincinnati retiring in 1988 as the company owner. Matt was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood and enjoyed fishing and golf. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 2 at 1pm at St. John's in Osgood with Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10am Wednesday with Rosary services at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to St. Jude's or St. John's Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
