Melvin "Doc" Iceberg

Melvin "Doc" Iceberg, 83, of Cross Plains passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was born in Pleasant Township in Switzerland County on June 7, 1920 the son of Henry and Mary Knollman Iceberg. He was married to Virginia Thomas on April 10, 1948 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Daniel Iceberg and his wife Carol of Cross Plains; three daughters, Diana Deamron and her husband Terry of Greenwood, Ileene Smith and her husband Larry of Monroe, Michigan, and Judy Hall and her husband Chuck of St. Charles, Illinois; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Smith of Cross Plains. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Darlene Lohide, his brother Leslie Iceberg, his sister Irene Iceberg, an infant brother and two infant grandchildren. Mr. Iceberg was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Dewberry and was a farmer. He, along with his wife, operated the M & V TV Shop in Cross Plains for several years. He also had served as a director on the Southeastern Indiana Rural Telephone Corporation for 21 years and had driven a school bus in the Switzerland County, Cross Plains, and South Ripley schools for a total of 42 years. Mr. Iceberg was a former member of the Friendship Fire Department and was a former director of the Ripley County Farm Bureau. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Donald Sauls officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Dewberry. Visitation will be Thursday, October 16 from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church building fund.
