Melvin T. Smith

Melvin T. Smith, 80, of Versailles passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at The Waters of Batesville. He was born at Farmers Retreat on June 20, 1923 the son of Gustav and Anna Marie Kinker Smith. He was married to Mary Jane McCoy on April 3, 1948 and she survives. He is also survived by one son, David Smith and his wife Lynne of New Castle, four sisters, Alverta Smith of Cincinnati, Verna Mayor of Michigan, Marian Rucker and Doris Strimple both of Aurora; two grandsons, Robert and Steven Smith of Greenfield, one granddaughter, Allison Senniger of Indianapolis and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Elmer and Don Smith and his sisters Gladys Whitaker and Betty Smith. Mr. Smith was a farmer and was employed for many years with the Halcomb Home Center at Versailles. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Olean and was a 1941 graduate of Cross Plains High School. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16 at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Marcus Felde officiating. Visitation will be Friday, August 15th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery at Olean. Memorials may be given to the cemetery.
