Muncie Beverly, 91, of Cross Plains passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015 at his home. He was born in Quicksand Territory in Perry County, Kentucky on November 18, 1923 the son of Robert and Irene Sheppard Beverly. He was married to Dorothy Jean Chilton on February 5, 1945 and she preceded him in death on June 28, 1991. Survivors include one daughter Peggy Sears of Vermont; four sons Mike Beverly and Barry Beverly both of Cross Plains, and Roger Beverly and Paul Beverly both of Osgood; 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carl, Millard, Ellis, and R.D. Beverly, and his sisters Ida, Delphi, and Margaret. Mr. Beverly was an Army veteran of WWII and served with Troop A of the 29 Calvary in the Philippines. He received the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. In civilian life he was a farmer and had worked as a custodian for the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles. He was also a former employee of the Ripley County Farm Bureau and Uhlman's Feed Mill, both in Cross Plains, and also Osgood Grain. Muncie was a member of the Madison VFW, and had attended the First Southern Baptist Church in Versailles. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. Johnny Lohrum officiating. Burial will be in the Turner's Station Cemetery near Campbellsburg, Kentucky. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Bear Creek Baptist Church of Friendship in care of the funeral home.
