Norma Brandes

**Norma Brandes**, 86, of Versailles passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Hospice of Cincinnati at Blue Ash. She was born near Benham on October 15, 1921 the daughter of George and Florence Westrick Vanosdol. She was married to Ralph Brandes and he preceded her in death on April 7, 2000. Survivors include one son Darrell Scott of Versailles; one daughter Diane (Roy) Carter of Alma, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; four step-sons, Linden Brandes of Brookville, Ralph Brandes III and Gregory Brandes both of Milan, and Gary Brandes of Batesville; her sister-in-law Virginia Vanosdol of Rushville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roscoe Vanosdol, and her daughter-in-law Janet Scott. Mrs. Brandes was a 1940 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She was a former employee of the Delaney Wood Heel Factory in Versailles, US Shoe at Osgood, Reliance Electric, and retired as a cook at South Ripley High School. She was a 51 year member of the Versailles Baptist Church where she participated and volunteered on many levels. She was also a member of the Versailles Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Do-A-Lot Home Economics Club, and the Ripley County Red Hatters. Mrs. Brandes enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and was an avid card player. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 1 at 10:30am at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Don Humphrey officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Eastern Star services at 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Baptist Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
