**Norman W. Diem**, 78, of Osgood passed away Saturday July 19, 2003 at the Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. He was born near Versailles on February 26, 1925, the son of Herman and Cora Williams Diem and was married to Elaine Schroder on December 21, 1946. Mrs. Diem passed away on November 28, 2002.
Mr. Diem was a 1943 graduate of Versailles High School and was an Army veteran of WWII. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
He was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church, former member of the Osgood Lions Club, a former member and chief of the Osgood Volunteer Fire Department, a 45 year member of the Osgood Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite. Mr. Diem was formerly employed with Bob Aikins, Vines Poultry, and along with his wife owned and operated Osgood Frozen Foods for 23 years retiring in 1987.
Survivors include one son, Ronald W. Diem and his wife Mary of Lafayette, one daughter, Jacqueline E. Layton and her husband Charles of Noblesville, one grandson, Robert Pipes and his wife Sara of Rochelle, Illinois, and one great-grandson, Austin Pipes, and also several cousins. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Diem.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 22 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with the Revs. Rob and Maxine Rixman of the Osgood United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery at Finks Corner. Visitation will be Monday, July 21 from 5pm to 8pm with Masonic services at 7:30pm. Memorials may be given to the Osgood United Methodist Church, the Osgood Fire Department, or St. Peter's Cemetery.
