**Orville Martin**, 83, of Versailles passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004 at his residence. He was born at Warsaw, Kentucky on May 7, 1920 the son of J.C. and Ella Mae Hussong Martin. He was married to JoAnn Kohler on January 11, 1963 and she survives. Other survivors include three sons, David Martin and his wife Suzanne of Versailles, Gary Martin and Kathy of Milton, Kentucky, and Robert and Nancy Martin of Madison; one daughter, Carolyn Jeanie Stroobandt of Union, Michigan; two step-sons, Ricky Simone of North Vernon and Mike Simone of Texas; one step-daughter, Sharon Winfield of Texas; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Woodrow Martin, one sister Pearl Thomas, step-son Russell Simone and grandson Christopher Martin. Mr. Martin was formerly employed with the Halcomb Home Center in Versailles and had served as dog warden for Ripley County since 1982. He also was a former employee of Switzerland County Highway Department and had farmed in Ripley and Switzerland Counties. Mr. Martin was an Army veteran of WWII and had received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupational Japan Medal. He was a member of the Shelby Christian Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. Earl Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 4 from 4pm to 8pm. Military graveside rites will be given by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Kings Daughters Hospital in care of the funeral home.
