Pastor Pearl Cornett, 64, of Versailles passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 near Manchester, Kentucky.
He was born near Manchester in Clay County, Kentucky on December 24, 1946 the son of Hiram and Frances Nolan Cornett. He was married to Elaine Canada on April 17, 1965 and she survives. Other survivors include three daughters Melissa (David) McGuire of Sunman, Melody (Jeff) Wright of Osgood, and Tracy (Greg) Fisk of Versailles; two sons Vearl Cornett of Versailles and Leslie Martin of Seymour; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson; three brothers Price (Sarah) Cornett and Hiram Cornett, Jr. both of Manchester, Kentucky, and Arnold (Thelma) Cornett of Blanchester, Ohio; six sisters Mary Wilson Sammons, Flora (Jimmy) Morgan, and Amanda Ross all of Salem, Indiana, Evelyn Strunk and Lorna Allen both of Milan, and Janie (Wayne) Dawes of Norwood, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Lewis, Alfred, and James Cornett.
Brother Pearl founded the Cavehill Church of God near Versailles in 1976 and served as their senior pastor for 34 years, seeing his congregation grow from 10 people to over 200 and seeing them through two building projects. He also founded the Cavehill Christian Academy and through the church and school touched a multitude of lives. He loved spending time with his family and returning to his native Kentucky, especially in the fall of the year. He was also a member of World Missions and Evangelism.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3 at 10:30am at the Cavehill Church of God with Pastor Doug Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 4pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the church or the Cavehill Christian Academy in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
