Phillip E. Powell, 83, of Versailles
passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg. He was born near Aurora on December 30, 1930 the son of Walter and Ethel Elwell Powell. He was married to Ruth Ann Rodgers on December 12, 1951 and his wife of 62 years survives. Other survivors include two sons Harold "Gomer" (Sandra) Powell of Milan and Vincent (Jackie) Powell of Versailles; three daughters Myrtle (Stephen) Redd of Greensburg, Theresa (Larry) Miller of Versailles, and Debra (Doug) Wetzler of Auburn, Georgia; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Christine Powell, his brother Harold Powell, and his sisters Mary McIntosh and Emma Francis Powell. Mr. Powell was a 1950 graduate of Versailles High School. He was a former employee of Russell Braley's Clover Leaf Store in Versailles, the Greensburg IGA, and retired in 1993 after 42 and a half years with Aurora Casket Company. Phillip was a member of the Versailles Wesleyan Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26
at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Doug Preston and Rev. Stephen Mullins officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to Rescue 69, the Heart Fund, or St. Judes in care of the funeral home.
