Phyliss J. Hafft, 70, of Versailles passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born in the Tanglewood community near Versailles on September 28, 1936 the daughter of J. Clifford and Garnet Alley Horton. She was married to Gene Hafft on April 23, 1963 and he survives. Other survivors include one son, Jeff Hafft and his wife Karen of Versailles; two daughters, Jackie McNeelan and her husband Martin of Whiteland, and Jennifer Alley and her husband Woodrow of Oaklandon; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent Horton of Versailles and Ray Horton and his wife Phyllis Kay of Arcadia, Florida; one sister Wilma Clark of Jeffersonville.
Mrs. Hafft was a 1954 graduate of Versailles High School. She served as Treasurer of the South Ripley School Corporation for 23 years retiring in 1995 and was also a homemaker. She also served as a volunteer for the South Ripley Elementary Library. Mrs. Hafft was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church and a member and past president of the Ripley County Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was the Ripley County volunteer for the American Cancer Society's "Reach to Recovery" program and also had held this position on the state level as well as serving on several state committees.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11 at 2pm at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Burcham and Rev. Mark Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 1pm Saturday to time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Baptist Church Music Fund, the Ripley County Cancer Society, or the South Ripley Elementary School Library in care of the funeral home.
