Ralph C. Fischer, 79, of Versailles passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Ross Manor in Dillsboro. He was born at Lawrenceburg on August 13, 1926 the son of Henry and Mateel Licking Fischer. He was married to Loa McCauley on March 11, 1950 and she preceded him in death on September 20, 1997. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Jack Fischer and his wife Irene of Greendale, Charles and Jane of Aurora, and Daniel and Carol of Dillsboro; one daughter Ann Edwards and her husband Don of Versailles; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister Carol Ann Martin of Ft. Myers, Florida; and his aunt, Gertrude Johnston of Elrod. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Kenneth, Irwin, Carl, and Leroy Fischer, and his sisters Marjorie Fischer and Mable Meyer. Mr. Fischer was a Navy veteran of WWII where he served on the USS Donner and the USS Fort Mandan. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the American Area Ribbon. Mr. Fischer was a 54-year member of Local 44 of the Iron Workers Union. He was also a member of the Versailles American Legion, Amvets, and the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23 at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Donald Sauls officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10am until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
