Richard F. Wagner, 83, of Napoleon passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at his home. He was born near Napoleon on October 20, 1927 the son of William and Catherine Brunner Wagner. He was married to Dolores Gehl at St. Maurice Catholic Church on August 12, 1950 and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter Theresa (Paul) Rork of Fairland; seven sons Steve (Ann) Wagner, Mike (Cathy) Wagner, Joe (Janet) Wagner, and Mark (Jean) Wagner all of Napoleon, John (Linda) Wagner of Osgood, Alan Wagner and his fiancé Silky Caldwell of Statesville, North Carolina, and Brian (Stacey) Wagner of Greensburg; 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother William (Delores) Wagner of Napoleon. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Iona Wagner, Wilma Peetz, and Burdella Brancamp, and his brothers Maurice, Paul, Cletus, and Donald Wagner. Mr. Wagner was a 1946 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon and was also a charter member of the Keene-Henneke VFW Post at Napoleon. He was a farmer and a former employee of the Union Furniture Company in Batesville, the Indiana State Highway Department, and Gulf Plastics in Greensburg. Richard was an Army veteran where he served with the Infantry from May of 1946 to May of 1947, 7 months of which was served in Occupied Japan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July at 10am at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon with Father Rob Hankee officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Keene-Henneke VFW Post and the Osgood American Legion. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services at 7pm. Memorials may be given to the St. Maurice Building Fund or the Hospice of the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in care of the funeral home.
