Robert M. Huntington, 83, of the Hopewell community passed away Sunday, May 7, 2006 at his home. He was born at Tefft in Jasper County, Indiana on August 16, 1922 the son of Abner and Eva Lilly Huntington. He was married to Agnes Hall on September 21, 1947 and she survives. Other survivors include three sons, Danny Huntington and his wife Sharon Crane of Potomac, Maryland, Bruce and his wife Nancy of Bulterville, and Greg and his wife Paula of Cedar Hill, Texas; four daughters, Kathi Smith and her husband Ernest of Tomaston, Georgia, Vickie and Richard Schneider of Sunman, Elaine Hammel of Holton, and Rebecca and Danny Filiatreau of Bardstown, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Howard Huntington of Ontario, California, Pierce Huntington of Selma, Indiana, Jay Huntington of New Castle, and Edgar Huntington of Muncie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sarah Martin. Mr. Huntington was a veteran of WWII where he served with the Marines in the South Pacific. Near the end of the war, he was sent back to Purdue University for Officer Candidate School, but the war had ended and he returned home to farm. Mr. Huntington was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and American Legion Post 777 in Indianapolis. He was retired from Cummins where he worked as a machinist for 35 years and was a member of the diesel workers union. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May at 11am at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be given by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to Parkinson's Disease Research or the Hopewell Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
