Robert L. Kieffer, 77, of New Marion passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born near New Marion on March 31, 1935 the son of Edward and Loretta Schafer Kieffer. He was married to Martha Caplinger on October 17, 1959 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Bob (Regina) Kieffer of Olean; four daughters Pam (Jeff) Mercer of Bargersville, Ann (John) Dicken of Holton, Mari (Jeff) Thielking of Batesville, and Libby (Greg) Scott of Versailles; grandchildren Ashley (Jake) Werner of Rexville, Jeffrey Mercer and his fiancé Stephanie Goedde of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Abby, Allie, and Joseph Dicken of Holton, Lauren and Vanessa Thielking of Batesville, Joseph Mercer of Whiteland, and Anthony Mercer of Bargersville; great-grandchildren Aubrey and Landon Werner and Aaden and Brantley Dicken; two sisters Helen Richards and Agnes Meltzer both of Shelbyville; one brother Edward (Sarah) Kieffer of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Florence Brown and Elizabeth McMahan, and his grandsons Phillip Thielking and Daniel Mercer. Mr. Kieffer was a 1953 graduate of New Marion High School and was a member of St. Magdalene Catholic Church in New Marion. He was a farmer and had worked as a custodian for the Versailles, Holton, and South Ripley schools. Bob enjoyed hunting and loved the Lord and his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 5 at 10am at St. Magdalene Catholic Church in New Marion with Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in North Madison. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with Rosary services at 7:30pm. Memorials may be given to the Daniel Mercer Fund in care of the funeral home.
