Robert "Joe" Owens

Robert "Joe" Owens, 85, of Osgood passed away at 5:50pm, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born at Vernon on November 17, 1933 the son of Glenn and Ethel Goodpaster Owens. He was married to Susan Miller on March 7, 1953 and his wife of 65 years survives. Other survivors include one son Jeff (Pat) Owens of Elrod; three daughters Vernice Stratton and Naomi (Kevin) Tunny both of Holton, and Tina Bardell of Milan, Michigan; 9 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters Lou Trueblood of Salem, and Georgia (Jerry) Adkinson of Elrod. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert, his son-in-law Leslie Stratton, Jr., his grandson Leslie Scott Stratton, his brothers Russell, Jim, John, Charles, Gene, Dennis, and Raleigh Owens, and his sister Faye Mills. Mr. Owens worked for 43 years as a digger and hydro-ax operator for the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood, retiring in 1997. He also served as pastor of the Mt. Zion Nazarene Church in Switzerland County for several years. Joe enjoyed coon hunting in his younger years and also raising a big garden. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26th at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tom Holt officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Family Cemetery near Osgood. Visitation will be on Monday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Miller Family Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
