Russell McGuire, 77, of Versailles passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008 at his home. He was born at Caney in Morgan County, Kentucky on February 10, 1931 the son of Green and Monnie Bailey McGuire. He was married to Juanita Tinch on June 3, 1953 and she preceded him in death on October 31, 1999. He was married to Sheila Lee on December 27, 2001 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Von (Vickie) McGuire of Versailles; two daughters, Guyeula (Olgust) Bowling of Middletown, Ohio, and Rhonda (Tim) Taylor of Rexville; two step-sons, Rick Humphrey of Indianapolis and Frank (Lisa) Humphrey of Greenwood; one step-daughter Kim (Rich) Woehler of Indianapolis; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Magdalene Robinson, Janice (Dean) Turner, and Shirley Willis all of Franklin, Ohio, Helen (Jim) Fletcher of North Vernon, and Ellarose (Gary) Johnson of Springboro, Ohio; five brothers, Ray (Annabee) McGuire, James (Cassie) McGuire, and Robert (Patricia) McGuire all of Franklin, Ohio, Jackie (Janice) McGuire, and Forest McGuire both of Rexville. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Clyde and Michael, and his great-granddaughter Savannah Woodham.
Mr. McGuire was an accomplished musician having recorded various albums and CDs. He was also well known in the local area for playing at many weddings and funerals. He attended the Cedar Creek Community Church and was a supervisor for Milestone Contractors. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13 at 10:30am at the Cedar Creek Community Church with Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1:30pm at the Wood Hill Cemetery in Franklin, Ohio with military graveside rites by the Franklin VFW post 7596. Visitation will be Sunday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30am until time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
