Russell E. Myers, 88, of Evansville passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his residence. He was born near New Marion on July 29, 1922 the son of Rufus and Lillie Brown Myers. He was married to Eva Lou Knight on July 14, 1986 and she preceded him in death on April 16, 1997. Survivors include five sons Danny (Brenda) Myers of New Marion, Norman (Barbara) Myers of Rexville, Russell Jr. (Linda) Myers of Dillsboro, Mert (Janet) Myers and Kenneth (Barbara) Myers both of Versailles; one daughter Mary (Thomas) Allen of Edwardsburg, Michigan; three step-sons Theron (Ingrid) Knight of Galveston, Indiana, Gary (Anne) and Jerry (Jean) Knight both of Georgia; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, and 17 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters Nettie Grigsby of Versailles and Rosie (David) Burress of New Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David and Charles Myers, and his sisters Mabel Sexton, Leah Swinney, Betty Kieffer, and Mary Jo Lauber, and his step-children Barbara Schucofsky and James Knight. Mr. Myers was a 1940 graduate of New Marion High School and was a retired truck driver. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served at the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 786 Tank Battalion as a truck driver in the Rhineland and in central Europe. Mr. Myers received the EAME Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Saturday from 10am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
