Ruth Ann Kamman Swinney

Ruth Ann Kamman Swinney, 77, of Osgood passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 at her home. She was born near New Marion on October 16, 1929 the daughter of Walter and Leah Heitmeyer Kamman. She was married to Edgar Lee Swinney on November 6, 1949 and he survives. Other survivors include one son David Swinney and his wife Melinda of Osgood; one daughter Lisa Ebinger and her husband David of Holton; grandchildren Matthew Swinney and his wife Bridget, Samantha Swinney, and Rebecca Swinney all of Osgood, and Joshua Ebinger of Holton; great-grandchildren Austin, Jeremy, and Alexis Ebinger of Holton; one brother Walter Kamman, Jr. and his wife Sarita of Holton; one sister Mary Thayer of Osgood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Jeremy Ebinger, her brother John Kamman, and sister Caroline Kamman and her brother-in-law Wade Thayer. Mrs. Swinney was a 1947 graduate of New Marion High School and the Indianapolis School of Business. She had formerly worked in the Anderson Schools and for Allison. She was also a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was baptized at the New Marion Baptist Church in 1945 and was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. She served as President of the Hopewell Missionary Society and was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Hopewell Cemetery Association. She was also a member of the Delta Rho Chapter of Tri-Kappa and the New Marion Alumni Association where she contributed to and wrote for the New Marion Memories Book. Mrs. Swinney chaired a local committee to erect a statue in the Versailles State Park commemorating the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the country, the farm and being a unique and wonderful servant of Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22 at 2pm at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4pm to 9pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 1 to 2pm Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Cemetery or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
