Sharon Rees

Sharon Rees, 67, of Holton passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on March 16, 1952 the daughter of Cecil and Thelma Byrd Kelly. She was married to Steve Rees on March 27, 1970 and he survives. Other survivors include one son Brian Rees of Holton; one daughter Tammy (Jeff) Wilson of Butlerville; 5 grandchildren Caitlynn Rees and Joey Rees of Holton, Ceara (Layton) Brandenburg of Franklin, and Sydney Burnett and Lanie Wilson of Butlerville; two brothers Ernie (Ellen) Kelly of Beaumont, California, and Arthur Kelly of Napoleon; one sister Carol Taylor of Holton. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Rees attended the Holton school and was a 1970 graduate of South Ripley High School. She was former employee of the Jennings County Hospital and the Holton Food Mart, a business that she and Steve later owned and operated. Sharon was a caregiver for her family and especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. Her spare time also found her enjoying herself at some of the area casinos. Funeral services for Sharon will be held on Monday, June 17 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Dwight Roark officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5pm to 7pm. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion or the Holton Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
