Verland C. Demaree,
81, of Benham
passed away at 12:20am
Monday, September 28, 2015 at his home. He was born at Benham on
May 1, 1934
the son of Dilver and Jeanette Bliton Demaree. He was married to
Anita Jean
Minch on November 3, 1956 and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include
three sons Randy Demaree of Madison, Darren Demaree of Benham,
and Bill
(Barbara) Risk of Lexington; one daughter Anita (Jack) Chitwood
of Hanover; 6 grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers Dwayne Demaree and Wes
Demaree both
of Benham, Howard Demaree of Moorefield, and Tim Demaree of
Versailles; one
sister Myrna Grimes of Dillsboro. He was preceded in death by
his parents. Mr.
Demaree was a 1952 graduate of Cross Plains High School where he
played on the
Wildcat basketball team. He had owned and operated the Texaco
Station in Cross
Plains and was also an over the road driver for Roadway
Trucking. He had also
owned and operated Demaree Trucking at Benham. Verland attended
the Concord
Wesleyan Church near Benham. Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, October
at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home
with Pastor Jerry
Vandervort of the Concord Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial
will be in the
Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm.
Memorials may be
given to the Benham Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
