Victor Fred Henry Schwanholt

**Victor Fred Henry Schwanholt**, 91, of Versailles passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born near Cross Plains on July 22, 1921 the son of John and Alma Steingruber Schwanholt. He was married to Virginia Sedam on August 30, 1947 and she preceded him in death on March 2, 1990. Survivors include five sons Dennis (Janet) Schwanholt of Versailles, David (Carol) Schwanholt of Milan, Dale (Linda) Schwanholt of Osgood, Darrell Schwanholt of Benham, and Doug (Hope) Schwanholt of Olean; three daughters Lois (Ralph) Vogel of Benham, Linda (Mark) Darnstaedt of Georgetown, and Lisa (Rob) Vestal of Benham; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law Jo Ann Schwanholt, his brothers Edward and Walter Schwanholt, and his sister Meta Thieman. Mr. Schwanholt was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 328 Hospital Battalion as a surgical technician. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Victory Medal. He worked in sanitation and warehouse maintenance for Seagrams in Lawrenceburg from 1953 to 1985 and was also a farmer. Mr. Schwanholt enjoyed his large family, loved John Deere tractors, and also enjoyed his farm and working with his animals. Victor was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Richard Wilkie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
