Violet Bare Mcclain

March 14, 1912 — July 23, 2004

Violet Bare McClain, 92, of Versailles, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Manderly Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near St. Paul, Indiana on March 14, 1912 the daughter of John and Lillie Rutherford Rathburn. She was married to Irvan Bare who preceded her in death in 1967. Other survivors include one daughter, Jean Kuhen of Oregon; one son William Rathburn of Green Valley, Arizona; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Don Bare, her sisters Lula Watson, Edith Peters, and Mary Thomas and her brothers Lawrence, Roy, John, Russell, Edgar, and Gerald Rathburn. Mrs. McClain worked at the five and dime in Osgood, Ensingers Furniture Store in Osgood and Rices Grocery in Osgood for twenty years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Kingston since 1931 and attended the Versailles Baptist Church regularly. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29 at 10am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mark Walker of the Versailles Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery near Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Mud Pike Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
