Virgil Demaree

**Virgil Demaree**, 72, of Rexville passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at his home. He was born near Rexville on July 15, 1935 the son of Elmer and Myrtle Boswell Demaree. He was married to Reta Steele on January 15, 1954 and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2005. Survivors include two sons, Carl Demaree and his wife Sandy of Madison and Robin Demaree and his wife Missy of Canaan; one daughter Evie Sanders and her husband Mike of Versailles; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers Neill Demaree and Jesse Demaree both of Mason, Georgia; two sisters, Lillian Beryl Hartman of Dunellen, Florida and Mildred Jackson of Madison. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lester, Charles, and Raymond Demaree, and his sisters Florence Laswell, Gladys Cook, and Evelyn Demaree. Mr. Demaree was a journeyman lineman with IBEW for 48 years retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ and attended the Concord Wesleyan Church. He was also a member of the Canaan Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, and the Southeast Indiana Shrine Club. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 31 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Visitation will be Monday from 5pm to 8pm with Masonic services at 7:30. Memorials may be given to the Concord Wesleyan Church or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
