W. Myrle Rodgers, 88, of Versailles passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Williamstown, Kentucky on March 25, 1919 the daughter of Jesse and Alice Smith Jacobs. She was married to Vincent Rodgers on September 1, 1936 and he preceded her in death on November 7, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Ted (Mary Ann) Rodgers of Dillsboro and David (Faye) Rodgers of Madison; four daughters, Ruth Ann (Phillip) Powell of Greensburg, June Skeen of Milan, Faye (Danny) Creigmile of Versailles, and Linda (Ronald) Cunningham of Aurora; 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Andy, daughter Myrtle Sue, two grandchildren, five brothers, and three sisters.
Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the Versailles Wesleyan Church. She was a former employee of the Delaney Wood Heel Factory, US Shoe, Aurora Casket Company, and had been a cook at the Big Wheel Truck Stop near Elrod. For several years she and her husband operated the "Rocking R" ranch at their home near Elrod where they hosted several horse shows.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Dale Day and Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Church of Christ or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
