Rev. Walter C. Williams

Rev. Walter C. Williams, 92, of Versailles passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born at Sullivan, Indiana on July 21, 1913 the son of Bert and Grace Turner Williams. He was married to Helen Maxine Walters on October 5, 1935 and she preceded him in death on June 18, 1991. Survivors include one son Larry Williams and his wife Marilyn of Beech Grove; daughters Judy Hill and her husband Elden of Joes, Colorado and Jane Williams of Versailles; grandchildren Rebecca Jane Hill and her husband Brennan Peterson of Portland, Oregon and Gregory Walter Hill and his wife Maureen Hearty of Denver; sister-in-law Lena Dyer of Cory, Indiana. He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren Craig Williams and Thomas R. Hill, sisters Nellie McCammon and Faye Zaayer, and his brother Ralph Williams. He was a 1931 graduate of Union High School at Dugger. Rev. Williams was a retired United Methodist minister having served Indiana congregations in Alfordsville, Alford, Asbury Chapel near Bicknell, Riley, Winslow, Newtown, and retired from the Milan United Methodist Church in 1978. He was a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church, South Indiana United Methodist Conference, Versailles Lions Club, and the South Ripley Ministerial Association. He was a former director of the Ripley County Cancer Unit and the Versailles Senior Citizen Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16 at 11am at the Tyson United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Hendrix and Pastor Marcus Felde officiating. Burial will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana at 12:30pm on Tuesday. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles, from 10am until time of services Monday at the church, and also on Tuesday from 11am until 12pm at Longs Chapel near Sullivan. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Retired Ministers fund or the Tyson United Methodist Church pre-school in care of the funeral home.
